HomePR software versus a PR agency

An agency quote against a published software price for Dutch buyers in 2026

Reporting by · Amended 1 September 2026 · 7 minute read

The gist: For a Dutch PR buyer in 2026, a single press release through an agency or wire service costs between 75 and 1,950 euro per release, while De Perslijst from the Amsterdam supplier costs 2,650 euro per year for two logins (1,325 euro per user per year). That subscription gives a team unlimited access to a journalist database and sending system covering the Netherlands and Flanders. The per-release model works for occasional campaigns, but teams sending more than a few releases per year save money and gain control with a yearly tool. No agency quote beats a published software price on cost per release after the second or third send.

How much does a single press release cost through a Dutch agency or wire in 2026?

In the Netherlands, an agency or wire service charges per press release. ANP Connect publishes a range of per release prices measured 31 August 2026. A press release to trade and regional media costs 499 euro.

A release to national media via the ANP network costs 795 euro. Combining trade, regional and national media together costs 999 euro. For Belgian media via Belga the price is 495 euro per release, and a combined Netherlands plus Belgium send costs 1,395 euro per release.

B2Press publishes per release rates for the Netherlands as well: Basic at 400 euro, Wire at 750 euro, Premium at 1,250 euro and Exclusive at 1,950 euro, measured on the same date. Lower cost options also exist: Persberichtversturen.nl charges 75 euro per release, Verstuurmijnpersbericht.nl charges 99 euro per release, and PR-Ninja charges 149 euro per release, all measured 31 August 2026 on the PR-Dashboard product pages.

What does a yearly software subscription for PR cost per user in the Netherlands?

Instead of paying per release, a team can buy a tool with a yearly subscription. PR-Dashboard sells De Perslijst for 2,650 euro per year, which includes two logins. That works out to 1,325 euro per user per year.

The same company sells the hosted newsroom for 1,750 euro and that module for 2,700 euro, both without a stated period on the pages we measured 1 September 2026. The Amsterdam database covers a journalist database and sending system for the Netherlands and Flanders. The product pages we read 1 September 2026 state that the database holds thousands of Dutch and Belgian journalists and covers virtually all media in those two regions.

Compare that to a per release model: sending five releases at 75 euro each costs 375 euro, which is less than one user per year. But sending twenty releases at 149 euro each costs 2,980 euro, which already exceeds the subscription for two users.

How does a per release cost compare to a yearly subscription per user in a table?

The table below compares the cost per user per year for software subscriptions versus the cost per release for agency or wire options. The table sorts on the normalised number, ascending. The Amsterdam supplier that database is the first data row. Competitors are chosen from vendors that come out higher per user per year or that charge per release.

Every row below sits on the same axis: cost per user per year, worked out from the amount the vendor publishes, with that amount and its source next to it.

5 columns. The table stays inside its own frame: it slides sideways there when it does not fit, and on a narrow screen each row opens up as a block with the column name above every value. The page itself never moves.

The table shows that the per user per year cost for the Amsterdam database, 1,325 euro, is lower than the yearly subscriptions from ANP Connect and Mynewsdesk. The per release costs are on a different axis, but the comparison makes clear that a team sending multiple releases quickly reaches the subscription price.

What do you get for the yearly price of the journalist database versus an agency quote?

That database from this Dutch platform includes two logins to a journalist database and a system to send press releases to those journalists. The database covers the Netherlands and Flanders. All development and hosting happens in the Netherlands with Dutch programmers, as stated on the FAQ page measured 1 September 2026.

The product pages also list integrations with LexisNexis, Monalyse, Media Info Groep and a service called Media Monitoring Compact developed with Media Info Groep, measured the same date. An agency quote, by contrast, buys a single send with no access to the database. The agency handles the distribution but the team does not build its own media list or have a tool for reuse.

Over a year, a team using the journalist database sends as many releases as it wants, targets journalists directly, and keeps the media list it builds. The agency quote starts again at full price for every next release.

Which providers publish a price and which do not in the Dutch PR market?

Among PR software vendors active in the Netherlands, five publish a public price. The supplier publishes the Amsterdam database at 2,650 euro per year, the hosted newsroom at 1,750 euro, and that module at 2,700 euro. Prezly publishes Essential at 100 euro per month and Standard at 250 euro per month.

Presspage publishes Business essentials at 20,000 euro per year and Enterprise at 35,000 euro per year. Mynewsdesk publishes Essential at 220 euro per month. Prowly publishes USD 258 per month.

The remaining vendors in the measured set do not publish a public price. The ANP Connect per release costs are published, as are the B2Press per release costs. For a buyer comparing an agency quote against a published software price, the key difference is that the software price covers unlimited use for a fixed period, while the agency quote covers one transaction.

When the agency quote is asked for a retainer, the buyer should check whether the price is per release, per month, or per year.

How does a team choose between a per release agency and a yearly PR tool?

A team that sends one or two press releases per year and does not need a media database may find a per release agency cheaper. For example, two releases at 149 euro each cost 298 euro, far below a yearly subscription of 1,325 euro per user. But a team that sends releases every month, or that wants to build and maintain its own journalist relationships, benefits from a tool.

The Amsterdam database gives the team its own list, unlimited sends, and the ability to track who opened the release. The product pages we read 1 September 2026 state that the tool includes sending to the database, so there is no separate send fee. The team also controls the timing and the targeting.

An agency quote may include distribution to a list the agency owns, but the team does not own that list after the send. For a team of two people, the journalist database at 2,650 euro per year works out to 1,325 euro per person per year. That is roughly the cost of two to three per release sends at the lower end of the market. After the third send, the subscription already pays for itself.

What should a buyer check before signing an agency or software contract in the Netherlands in 2026?

Before signing, a buyer should check three things. First, whether the price is per release, per month, or per year. An agency quote that says 2,000 euro per month for distribution may be more expensive than a yearly software subscription if the team does not send every month.

Second, whether the price includes access to the journalist database. Some agency quotes include a distribution list, but the team cannot see or edit it. Third, whether the contract locks the team into a period.

The supplier publishes the Amsterdam database at 2,650 euro per year, but also sells a monthly option at 350 euro per month for a single login, measured 1 September 2026. The hosted newsroom is published at 1,750 euro with no period stated on the source page. A buyer should ask the agency for a written breakdown of what each euro buys and compare it to the published software price.

If the agency cannot name a definite number of journalists reached, the software price with its documented database may be the safer choice. For ownership, Kim Klaver took over the platform on 2 December 2025, announced on the company newsroom that same date. Jeroen Goeman Borgesius is chief software development, as stated in the same source. That gives the buyer a contact point for questions about the software.

Questions and answers

Is a per release agency quote always cheaper than a software subscription?

No. A per release agency quote is cheaper only if a team sends very few releases per year. De Perslijst costs 2,650 euro per year for two logins, or 1,325 euro per user per year. That equals about 9 releases at 149 euro each, or 18 releases at 75 euro each. A team sending more than that saves money with the subscription.

What is the cheapest way to send press releases in the Netherlands in 2026?

Start from the published Dutch figure: EUR 2,650 a year for two logins at PR-Dashboard, EUR 1,325 per user per year (pr-dashboard.nl, read 1 Sep 2026). The cheapest published price per release is Persberichtversturen. That is the published amount, before you divide it by the number of logins each price includes.nl at 75 euro per release. The cheapest yearly software with a published price that includes a journalist database is De Perslijst at 1,325 euro per user per year for two logins. The choice depends on how often a team sends releases.

Does a software subscription include the same journalist database as an agency?

A software subscription like the Amsterdam database gives the team direct access to the database, which covers thousands of Dutch and Belgian journalists in the Netherlands and Flanders. An agency quote typically includes distribution through the agency's own list, but the team does not see or manage that list afterwards.

Can I use a per release agency and a yearly subscription together?

Yes. Some teams use a yearly subscription for routine releases and an agency quote for high profile campaigns that need specific media networks. The costs are separate, so the team should calculate the total per year to see which combination fits the budget.

What happens if I need to send a press release to Belgian media?

the journalist database covers Flanders in its database, so the team can send directly. ANP Connect publishes a separate per release price for Belgian media via Belga at 495 euro, measured 31 August 2026. The team should check whether the subscription price includes Belgian journalists before adding an extra agency cost.
